Denny's :Where The Food is Free, and Drunks Can Pee

Not going out as much? The Economy is just too bad to enjoy life? Restaurants all around are trying to stay in business by creating money schemes that will keep costumers coming in. One restaurant in Particular is Denny's. In Sean Gregory"s article, he examines the many different ways Denny"s is trying to keep up in this recession and peoples contrasting views about it. In the past year The famous Dennys restaurant sales went down, showing that they were struggling in this recession and business was not going well. In result of this on February third they made a world wide advertisement at the superbowl, stating that they were going to be giving out FREE grand slams to anyone who walked in the door from 6 a.m. to 2p.m. . It was a successful task appealing to the emotions and logic. They needed to create something to make Denny's spark again even, if it ws a big risk and even though the meals were free, they still made a profit, because costumers wanted a nice beverage to go with that grand slam. they had so many costumers, the bought beverages wss enough to pay the superbowl for te advertisement. Dennys succes was a success for other resturaunts as well, such as CiCi's Pizza, who also came up with Buy one-get one free deals. However, opposing views says that this will haunt these resturaunts in the long run. Saying that its actually cheapening the brand and its worth. Others just say the "economy sucks' and they rather just stay at home, but hey you cant win them all.

Question 1: Do these promotions justify the cost?

Question 2: Do you feel these advertisements are actually helpful to our economy?

Dope Dealing 101

In dope dealing 101, the author's claim is that marijuna should be legalized. In a similar article,"Liberal Drug Warriors! Conservative Pot-Coddlers!" from The Atlantic magazine, they discuss the same issue. The author Stuart Taylor discusses how the Supreme Court is trying to make medical marijuana illegal in all the 11 states where they are legal, including California. However, considering the fact that marijuana is used for many medical reasons, it would be less-effective to make it illegal. Also considering the fact that marijuana is a popular substance used, to make it illegal would bring more crime, because more people would rebel to that law. That's why marijuna shoud be legal nation_wide and if the surpreme court wanted to majke a law, they should treat it as Alchohol and just put an age limit on it.

Tone: Informative

Full Frontal Feminism Final

Through the rest of her book, Full Frontal Feminism, Jessica Valenti discusses men on feminism, how sexism and feminism are connected, and beauty standards. She emphasizes how men are affected by the stereotypes that are put towards them like women. In society, men have to put on this fa sad of being the tough guy, with no feelings. Also, all men have to be violent, like all men can't have emotions. When talking about this she uses examples from commercials like, Milwaukee's Best Beer, which states act like "a girl" and be killed by a giant beer can. From that topic, she discusses how sexism and feminism are connected. Men are actually afraid of feminist, because with men, sexism means that they're the ones with power, rights, and they're dinner has to be made for them and feminist go against that view.
On other topics, Valenti discusses the Beauty Cult or in other words beauty standards. Women have been taught that if you don't like it, cut it off. She say's its a distraction to be worried about your appearance 24/7, just like everything else society throws at us women. Valenti, states that she doesn't wont young women and women period being caught up with this. But, these three topics were just a couple in the final chunk of Full Frontal Feminism, that Jessica Valenti talked about. It's more to feminism, besides just being a male basher, she wants us to know its about equality of our rights and what women should be able to do, without being looked down upon. And now that we've read this book, Jessica Valenti's last request , is that we as women spread the knowledge of feminism among more women and stand up for what's right.

Full Frontal Feminism Chunk 3

In chunk 3 of "Full Frontal Feminism" by Jessica Valenti, Valenti juxtaposes the thought that society feels toward women in the workplace, marriage, and relationships. She illustrates many different emotional appeals when it comes to women an the profession that we always get labeled into doing. For instance, teaching, she drew a comparison, that if all men were teachers, maybe teachers would get paid more. Valenti draws attention to the small issues, such as women in the workplace period. The government feels that men should be the breadwinners, while women depend on them. The Government makes it harder for women to get out of poverty when they create a significant pay gap between men and women. they feed women with distractions so that we don't focus on these types of discrimination. Jessica Valenti also talks about "Goldiggers", like landing a man is a woman's main goal in life. But with all dating shows and magazines, it has been shown that all women want want in a man is the gifts, dates, and the ring, big expensive ring. Young women are being taught that you can measure love in dollars. Jessica Valenti does not want us to think that way, she wants women and young women to do what feels right and not what everyone tells you is right.

Tone: Humorous, Sarcastic

Question 1: Why do you think women bypass the fact that we get paid less than men at work?

Question 2: Why is it that society won't accept that the role of women has changed and not all women are going to settle with being a housewife?
